TRI-NEO (NDFEB)

Tri-Neo magnets, composed of neodymium, iron, and boron, have the highest energy product of any permanent magnet material. Since the raw materials that make of Tri-Neo magnets are relatively abundant and low in cost, the cost of Tri-Neo magnets per maximum energy product is favorable. Tri-Neo magnet applications are expanding in the automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics industries. Tri-Neo magnets are available in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and grades.

SAMARIUM COBALT (SMCO)

Samarium Cobalt magnets have a maximum energy product ranging from 18 to 35 MGOe. The thermal properties of SmCo magnets are unmatched to those of rare earth magnets. SmCo magnets maintain high magnetic unit properties even in challenging high temperature or high demagnetizing field environments. Another figure of merit, is SmCo’s high Curie temperature.

CERAMIC/FERRITE

Ferrite magnets are the most widely used magnets because of their low cost. The raw materials used in ferrite magnet production are inexpensive and nonstrategic. Ferrite magnets exhibit a low residual flux density because they are oxide magnets produced by powder metallurgy. Ferrite magnets are available in isotropic and anisotropic grades and have a maximum energy product range from 1 to 5 MGOe.

ALUMINUM NICKEL COBALT (ALNICO)

Alnico is the oldest family of permanent magnets, having been made and used since 1930s. It is produced in both cast and sintered forms. The grades range from 2.0 MGOe to 10.0 MGOe. The most commonly used grades are cast Alnico 5 and Alnico 6 with Alnico 8 and Alnico 9 being premium grades.

BONDED (FERRITE, SMCO, NDFEB)

Injection molded magnets are essentially fully dense magnetic powders mixed and blended with a variety of polymer base materials. Depending on the blend of magnetic material and polymer selected, a wide range of final material properties are possible. Injection molded magnets dimensionally conform to mold cavities, which are accurately machined, resulting in finished products which usually do not need further finishing operations. This eliminates following operations and lessens total cost.
